Where It All Began...

Hey, I'm Maz. This is my blog. This is also my very first stab at blogging, so I apologize if this entry and future entries reek with inexperience. I've created this blog because of my growing interest in the economic community surrounding World of Warcraft. I've recently become addicted you see, to making gold. This past summer I made a goal to reach gold cap. No time frame for now. Actually, I wouldn't mind hitting the 100k mark before cataclysm. So the idea is this will be a place for me to give updates on capping, talk about what I'm doing to reach it, and discuss various topics related to world of warcraft economics. I think I'm going to do the predictable thing and start this blog with a brief background.

About half a year ago when I was playing my resto druid and in need of (what I thought was) a large amount of gold, I shifted into serious AH mode. Getting serious on the AH meant I needed to do research. I knew the AH for me was this untapped source of shiny goodness, but I was completely unequipped with the proper addons and the right approach. After about a week of research and trial and error, I miraculously had made enough gold to craft my Blessed Cenarion Boots. That was only the beginning though. I was hooked! Who would of thought you could make 1000g+ a day with 20min to an hours work and no farming? Not me apparently. In retrospect, it seems silly how I didn't realize the potential gold to be made earlier on. I want to note that this was back in February 2010 when Primordial Saronite were going for 1600-2000g/Primordial on my server. I needed 5 in total for my boots. Most of the other mats I "farmed for free". I know I know, I can feel the eyes rolling now.

I played the auction house and learned as much as I could over the next couple months, but eventually had to put Wow on hold while finishing final exams and preparing for nationals. When that headache was over and free time was once again mine, I came back to the game with a strong goal to reach gold cap. 214,748g 36s 48c, holy crap! To me, it's like the ultimate achievement. I can't even imagine what it would be like to see a in game notification that you're maxed on gold. "Error - You've maxed your gold buddy, go outside for a bit".

Fast forward to today. After the recent "Great Glyph Harvest" of patch 4.0.1 I am sitting on 61k. I only made 15k selling glyphs over the first 2 days, but I think that was pretty decent considering an extreme lack of preparation, no bank stock, and crafting day of. I actually should be up around 100k total, but stupidly bought a bunch of ICC gear for my warrior back in August. Ya that's right, I spent about 35k on gear for a character which is an alt now... (But DBW and Heroic Bryntroll were amazing fun in arenas!).

I play an Elemental Shaman, and currently use Enchanting and Inscription primarily to make gold.
